0262007 2007 - Song Writing and Keyword Marketing
Have you ever thought of writing a song that can be rapidly and inexpensively promoted on the Internet? Some songs are going to be expensive to promote, while others are going to be inexpensive and easy to promote. The cost of promoting your song on the Internet actually depends on keyword competition.
An effective way to market songs is to use keyword marketing services such as Google’s AdWords auction system. Similar keyword auction systems are also available from Microsoft and Yahoo. With the AdWords system you can create a small text or graphical banner ad that advertises your song and links to a destination such as a SONGboost SONGpage where your song can be listened to and purchased from. For as little as one cent per click (your bid), the automated AdWords system inserts your ad into web pages that feature content that you deem relevant to your song and/or to the target niche you are trying to reach.
Interestingly enough, your cost per click, which is the amount you must bid to pay when your ad is clicked after it is shown, is driven by competition for the same keyword insertion. For example, if you are trying to promote a love-themed song, you will actually run up against expensive keyword competition from companies promoting everything from porn to dating sites to Viagra. Alternatively, if you are promoting a song such as Butterfly by the band Jediah you could inexpensively target, because there is very little keyword competition, every keyword combination that is relevant to Butterflies. In fact, while testing out the promotion of the song Butterfly, we ran into so little competition that we were able to send almost 500,000 people to a page similar to this Butterfly SONGpage in 90 days.
Most songwriters are not motivated to write songs based upon keyword competition. However, if you have three or four good songs to consider promoting on the Internet, pick the song that has the least keyword competition to begin your campaign and then use that song to link to your other songs.
