0952006 2006 - Niche Markets Matter
There are hundreds of niche demographic markets (segmented by groupings like age, gender, interests, hobbies, etc.) that contain more than a million people. Ultimately, there will be businesses all over America that will find you, promote your songs to niche markets, and pay you every time your song is played or sold. It will be the company that creates the Harley Davidson Channel, or the company that creates the Extreme Skiing Channel, or the company that creates the Boating Network that may ultimately popularize your music and they will most likely be paying you (a share of advertiser revenue) while they attempt to do it.
There are thousands of small, medium, and large cities (towns or regions) with populations of more than 30,000 people. There are thousands of websites that cater to specialized interests and hobbies, or to specific segments of the population. Many of these websites are visited by thousands of unique visitors each month. Find a website or a local business that will feature your song(s) and link to iTunes. Offer the website owner a percentage of your sales. You may even be able to persuade your city of town to support your art by putting a link on the municipal website. The bottom line: learn how to mine (dig) out a niche segment to market your songs to. Trust us, there are thousands of innovative ways to get the job done.
